With the passing of The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers, AO, OCC, National Hero of Barbados. I convey my sincere condolences to his family, relatives and friends and to the cricket, golf and other sporting communities that captured his interest and talents. I had the pleasure of meeting and engaging with him on matters that required his knowledge of the sports of golf and cricket, while constructing world-class facilities for those sports in Barbados. Always courteous, always a gentleman, he was generous with his knowledge whenever he was called upon. I consider it a privilege to have learnt from him. The innings of the “greatest cricketer on Earth or Mars” has been ended by the Great Umpire’s call, but his contribution to Barbados’ score will remain forever. Rest in Peace, Sir Garry.
