I did not know Sir Garfield Sobers personally but I worked in the tourism industry for about 7 years as a tour guide with cruise passengers. As one of the highlight spots when leaving the port or on our way back, many tourists were always intrigued about about this amazing hero who certainly placed Barbados on the international stage. Many of them would often venture to the statue after the tour to take pictures and some British and Australian tourists would always remark about seeing him play cricket in the early days. It was a joy sharing about him every single time but more pride than ever to hear persons from all over the world put him on a high pedestal.
