The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers has been an example of a veritable legend, a true son of the soil and a patriot of Barbados. He has, by his extraordinary exploits on the cricket field, indelibly etched Barbados on the global landscape and has also proved to be an absolute gentleman and Ambassador for this our beloved country. I deem it a personal privilege and honour to have lived during the lifetime of this great and unforgettable icon. May his soul repose in eternal peace in the gentle arms of his Creator.
