What more can I say about His Excellency, Sir Garfield Sobers, that has not already been said? What I can share is the privilege that we at Almond Beach Resort had of hosting Sir Garfield at our weekly guest cocktail parties. Every visit was truly the highlight of the evening for both our guests and staff. Although he was booked for only a limited time, Sir Garfield would never leave until every question had been answered and every photograph had been taken. More often than not, we had to gently rescue him from the crowd so he could finally make his departure. That was simply who he was—gracious, generous with his time, and genuinely interested in people. Despite reaching the very pinnacle of sporting greatness, he never lost his humility or his remarkable ability to connect with everyone, regardless of their background or status. He made every person feel valued. Sir Garfield leaves behind a legacy that will be difficult to match. He was not only one of the greatest cricketers the world has ever known but also one of Barbados’ finest ambassadors and a truly exceptional human being. Rest in peace, Sir Garfield. Thank you for making this world a better place through your kindness, your humility, and your extraordinary life. You will be deeply missed.
