A Legacy That Will Live Forever – BARP Honours Sir Garry Sobers The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) is profoundly saddened by the news today of the passing of our beloved National Hero and international cricketing legend, The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers. Sir Garry, as he preferred to be called, was the true epitome of global excellence. Through his phenomenal achievements, this son of humble Bajan beginnings transformed not only the game of cricket but also the aspirations of generations who saw in him the power of talent, determination, and excellence. He was as audacious in his ambitions as he was exceptional in his accomplishments, always striving to be the very best in his craft. From his once-unprecedented record of six sixes in a single over, to leading a triumphant West Indies team, to receiving a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II, and later being honoured as one of only two living National Heroes of Barbados, Sir Garfield St Auburn Sobers amassed a legacy of extraordinary achievement that transcended sport. At BARP, we mourn his passing while celebrating a life that inspired Barbados, the Caribbean, and the wider world. His legacy will endure for generations to come as a symbol of excellence, humility, and national pride. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
