I started getting entralled by Sobers from the ’60-61 test series when West Indies played against Australia in Australia. Since then my admiration for his all-round cricketing ability new no bounds. He is a gem that shone wherever he played. Always ready for a laugh, exciting to watch- batting, bowling or fielding & despite all the fame, was very humble- never dwelling on his cricketing achievements & ready to give credit to those who come up the ranks, like Lara, especially when he overtook Sobers’ world record batting score of 365. He was quick to praise his team mates & other West Indian stars. He is unique with no one as near good enough as him. Jacque Kalis comes close but lacks Sobers’ versatility. Sobers is irreplaceable & there will never be another genius like him in future. May he rest in peace.
