I have 2 moments where my life was “touched ” by Sir Garry. One indirectly, the other in person. As a 5 year old, playing bat and ball with my uncle in rural Barbados, I was Dennis Lillie, my uncle was Sir Garry Sobers. I bowled a delivery that was struck back at me and broke my nose(fixed and all good). Sir Garry has always gotten the better of Lillie, evidently. Secondly, as a teenager playing for Combined Schools and later being a member of the Barbados Youth Team, I had the privilege to meet him in person and mentored on how to specifically grip the bat. The simple way in which he profess the game be played has forever stuck with me. My condolences to his family, friends and the cricket community in Barbados, Australia and the world. May the great man rest in peace and rise in glory. 🙏🏽✨️
